The standard of beauty that America sets for the rest of the world
intrigues me. Via Hollywood movies, Television and Magazines ..it's
always been about this Aryan beauty. It's alarming to me that until
now, 2014--there has not been an Asian or Pacific Islander on the cover
of Vogue Magazine. Furthermore, if a child walks into an American
Museum, seeing a painting of an Asian or Pacific Islander is a rarity.
I wish to change this by introducing portraits which are inclusive of
these people. Perhaps my paintings will make it to a museum someday,
and a brown child will feel beautiful too--if she sees herself
represented. It may even convince Anna Wintour- that brown is indeed
beautiful enough to grace the front cover of her Magazine. -Ben Ferrer
