The standard of beauty that America sets for the rest of the world intrigues me. Via Hollywood movies, Television and Magazines ..it's always been about this Aryan beauty. It's alarming to me that until now, 2014--there has not been an Asian or Pacific Islander on the cover of Vogue Magazine. Furthermore, if a child walks into an American Museum, seeing a painting of an Asian or Pacific Islander is a rarity. I wish to change this by introducing portraits which are inclusive of these people. Perhaps my paintings will make it to a museum someday, and a brown child will feel beautiful too--if she sees herself represented. It may even convince Anna Wintour- that brown is indeed beautiful enough to grace the front cover of her Magazine. -Ben Ferrer Los Angeles www.benferrer.blogspot.com Twitter: @thebenferrer
